Ella Mai can add another hit record to her urban radio scorecard. “Shot Clock,” the latest single from her self-titled album, has rose from No. 11 to No. 9 on the airplay chart. The new peak has secured Mai her third top 10 single on urban radio.
Mai first appeared as a chart-buster on urban radio with “Boo’d Up” last spring. Five months after, the Grammy-winner’s remorseful single “Trip” made its debut in the top 10. The latter song became her fastest run into those urban radio rankings.
Mai and Chris Brown are currently the only two R&B acts in the top 10 on urban radio. Brown’s nostalgic bop “Undecided” holds court at No. 6. The two stars collaborated on Mai’s debut album for “Whatchamacallit.”
Last week, Mai got caught in the social media crossfires after tweeting her thoughts on the current state of R&B. In our latest editorial, we analyzed her remarks while diving deeper into the support for emerging and established R&B artists.
Mai is currently on her Debut Tour, with Rated R&B’s artists to watch in 2019 Lucky Daye and Kiana Ledé as supporting acts. The former artist recently released II, his latest EP, while Ledé dropped an acoustic version of “Ex” off her Selfless EP.
After her U.S. trek, Mai will be hitting the stage at Coachella and the Broccoli City Festival in April.
