Leon Bridges wasn’t kidding when he told Rated R&B last April he wanted to “incorporate shit that people don’t think would belong in R&B.” Hailed as an R&B traditionalist, the Grammy winner teams with Lucky Daye for a new guitar-wielding duet called “All About You.” The track also arrives with an accompanying music video. Watch it above.
The acoustic-laden ambience, with an overtone of bass, is custom-made for the suave voices of the two stars, who sing about being mesmerized by unconcerned lovers that can’t seem to see they have emotions, too.
“For this song, we set out to bring back the energy of some of the ’90s R&B greats we grew up listening to. The way Lucky and I met was completely organic,” says Bridges. “One night when I was out on the town in LA I ran into a friend of Lucky’s who suggested that we should collaborate. I was totally down but wanted our connection to be natural and chill. The day after, I was in the studio and Lucky randomly shows up. I grabbed my guitar and we tossed around some melodies and lyrics and ‘All About You’ was born.”
Both crooners have been playing the R&B field this year. Bridges has issued three other tracks, including the serene “Inside Friend” featuring John Mayer, the somber “Sweeter,” and the Kiana Ledé-assisted track “Better.”
Daye, who was recently spotted in the lab with Keyshia Cole, united with Kaytranada for an insanely cocky “Look Easy” and made “Velvet” notes with Kirby. He also re-released his Grammy-nominated debut album Painted for its one year anniversary. It featured a few new songs, including one titled “Shoulda,” which samples a very popular Toni Braxton classic.
