All aboard! The 2020 Soul Train Awards made a two-hour virtual stop last night to celebrate the best in R&B and hip-hop music, with the always-hilarious Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell as hosts.

Monica was presented with the coveted Lady of Soul award by H.E.R. for her 25 years of timeless love songs and hood classics and around-the-way girl influence. Following her touching acceptance speech, the R&B legend performed a nearly 10-minute medley of her beloved hits, and her latest single, “Trenches.”

Brandy, who won the Soul Train Certified Award, sang a two-song medley (“Say Something” and “Borderline”) from her newest album b7.

Ella Mai paid homage to Janet Jackson in her performance of “Not Another Love Song,” while Jazmine Sullivan took the nightclub stage to deliver a soul-burning set of “Lost Ones” and “Pick Up Your Feelings.”

Nothing was more amazing than the soul cypher, which included vocal-packed freestyles by the likes of Shanice, Stokley, PJ Morton, and Chanté Moore.

Lucky Daye called on Babyface to perform their latest single “Shoulda,” which appears on the deluxe edition of Painted. Soon after, Cee-Lo Green represented the Go-go era in a funkdafied performance.

Legends Smokey Robinson and Charlie Wilson united for their new single “All My Love,” before Uncle Charlie took us to church to honor the late gospel titan Rance Allen.

Snoh Aalegra dazzled in a wonderland with her number one single “I Want You Around.” Also, fresh faces Ella Nicole and Moses Sumney shared their new music.

Skip Marley, whose album Higher Place is nominated for in the category of Best Reggae Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards, performed “Slow Down” and “Make Me Feel” at the pre-show.
