Usher is on a roll. After delivering a flawless performance for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, the global superstar pairs with rap duo City Girls on their new single “Good Love.”
The party-ready anthem arrives just in time for the summer. Over a production, which samples Lathun’s 1997 jam “Freak It,” Usher ensures that he can give everlasting love in the bedroom.
“You say, yeah, you say that you that you want good love / And girl, I can give it to you / Wanna lay you down, make you fall in love / All the freaky things that I can do / I can freak it til’ the morning,” Usher sings in the chorus.
Yung Miami and JT deliver hot, light-hearted verses with their signature flair.
“Good Love” arrives with an accompanying video directed by Daps. It was filmed at Atlanta’s iconic Cascade Skating Rink.
“Good Love” is Usher’s second collaboration of 2022. He appeared on Mary J. Blige’s “Need Love” from her 15th album, Good Morning Gorgeous, which was released in February. He joined Blige at her Strength of a Woman Festival in May to perform the song live for the first time.
Last year, he appeared on Justin Bieber’s “Peaches (Remix)” with Ludacris and Snoop Dogg. He also collaborated with Jam & Lewis on “Do It Yourself” from their debut album, Jam & Lewis, Vol. 1. Rated R&B teamed with the legendary songwriting and production duo to premiere the official lyric video.
It’s been nearly two years since Usher released music as a lead artist. In 2020, he dropped four tracks, including “SexBeat” featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris, “I Cry,” “Bad Habits,” “California” featuring Tyga and “This Day” featuring Kiana Ledé.
The latter two songs were tied to television and film. “California” was featured on NBC’s Songland and “This Day” was featured on the soundtrack for Netflix’s holiday original Jingle Jangle.
Usher’s last project was a collaborative project with producer Zaytoven titled A, which was released in 2018 to celebrate his 40th birthday. Meanwhile, his latest proper studio album, Hard II Love, was released in 2016.
Usher’s highly anticipated album could be coming soon. In a March interview with People, he shared his desire to release the album sometime this year. “My plan is to get back to servicing music the way that we did before,” he said.
In the meantime, he is scheduled to launch the second leg of his Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM on July 15. He will wrap up his stint on Oct. 29.
