Victoria Monét is still teasing us with details about her highly anticipated album, Jaguar II, out Aug. 25 via RCA Records. She took to social media this week to share its official tracklist.
Jaguar II features previously released singles “Smoke” featuring Lucky Daye, the Buju Banton-assisted “Party Girls” and “On My Mama.”
Sampling rapper Chalie Boy’s 2009 bop “I Look Good,” the latter track premiered and peaked at No. 16 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. It marks her best performance thus far on this chart.
According to Mediabase, “On My Mama” impacted urban radio today (July 18).
Circling back to Jaguar II. Monét isn’t done pulling out all the stops for the 11-track effort. She enlists the legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire for “Hollywood,” a song that includes a feature from Hazel Monét, her two-year daughter.
Monét’s next project will include a Kaytranada-produced track, “Alright.” D’Mile, a key player in the first Jaguar project, is heavily involved in its follow-up.
This tracklist announcement comes a week after Monét revealed headlining tour dates behind Jaguar II. Her Jaguar Tour starts Sept. 6 in Detroit, Michigan, and concludes Nov. 15 in London, U.K.
According to Monét, The Jaguar Tour is sold out. This news comes after she added three dates to her first tour in cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Monét’s Jaguar series will come to a close with Jaguar II, even though it was originally planned as a trilogy.
“It really kind of breathes new life into part one. If you’re just now catching onto me as an artist, you’ll know, it’s because it’s part two, that there was a part one, so you may revisit it,” Monét told Zane Lowe of Apple Music.
“If people are just getting introduced to an artist, if they see a long list, a long album, they may get kind of overwhelmed, so I kind of always intended to microdose my style and my music to people in segments. But as I went on, I just kind of kept adding songs to those little segments. I know that there won’t be a part three anymore, because obviously, didn’t expect to take three years in between part one and part two, or have a child in between.”
The previous project, Jaguar, was released in August 2020 and featured production overseen prominently by D’Mile. It included guest appearances by Khalid and SG Lewis, the latter producing the track “Experience.”
Jaguar placed No. 5 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020 list.
Since then, Monét dropped two 2022 tracks, “Coastin’” and “F.U.C.K.” Neither track will appear on Jaguar II.
