In April 2018, Normani announced her solo deal with Keep Cool and RCA Records. “I’m so incredibly grateful to be able to be in a place where I can explore myself as an artist and what I’m capable of,” Normani said. “Never in a million years did I think I would be in this position in 2018. Everyone has been so supportive and patient; thank you so much to my fans for giving me the opportunity.”
Two months prior, the former Fifth Harmony member had joined alt-R&B singer Khalid on “Love Lies,” their duet that appeared on the Love, Simon soundtrack.
Keeping the momentum going, in October 2018, Normani teamed with DJ and producer Calvin Harris for a two-track EP aptly titled Normani x Calvin Harris. It included the Wizkid-featured bop “Checklist” and the R&B-house groove “Slow Down.” Weeks later, Normani returned with the 6LACK-assisted “Waves,” a moody track that ripples with anguish and desire for an ex-lover.
As anticipation for a project continued to build, Normani joined forces with Sam Smith for “Dancing With A Stranger,” released in January 2019. She sent the internet into a frenzy with her debut solo single “Motivation,” which released in August. The now-certified platinum hit had fans ever so ready for Normani’s debut album — especially since she teased in 2018 that she already had a title for it.

Things got a little quiet, musically, for Normani in 2020. Though no official singles were released, she did collaborate with rapper Megan Thee Stallion on “Diamonds” from the Birds of Prey soundtrack. Just as fans started to become antsy, Normani returned again in 2021 with “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B. Despite the song’s success — it peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 — fans would have to wait until the following year for more music from Normani.
In March 2022, Normani released her vulnerable single, “Fair,” produced by HARV. “It captured me in the moment as I was experiencing in real-time,” Normani told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. Later that summer, she joined Calvin Harris again — this time with Tinashe and Offset — on “New To You” from his album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2.
Fast forward to 2024. Normani has confirmed her debut album will be released this year on RCA Records. Below, we’ve compiled everything we know so far about Normani’s new album.

Why hasn’t Normani released an album?
This has been a question that many fans have asked throughout the years since Normani announced her solo record deal. In a recent interview with The Cut, Normani opened up about her life over the last few years, from supporting both of her parents’ battle with cancer to needing time to simply live. “I felt like I needed to experience things to actually be able to talk about them on a record, whether it’s my parents, or heartbreak, or even just being in tune with myself as a 27-year-old woman,” Normani told The Cut. “There’s so much life I’ve lived in the span of creating this body of work.”
In the same interview, Normani revealed that she revised her album at least four to five times. “I could’ve put three albums out by now in that duration. I’m not oblivious to that,” she stated. “But I felt like I owed it to myself to be able to take my time, and reinvent, and be experimental.”
