Coco Jones has landed a new award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for “ICU.”
The Grammy-winning single has been certified platinum, with over one million equivalent units sold.
The Camper-produced hit first achieved gold status in May 2023.
“ICU” was released as the second single from Jones’ Grammy-nominated 2022 debut EP, What I Didn’t Tell You, which was expanded in early 2023 as a deluxe version.
Her breakout single reached No. 1 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and R&B Digital Song Sales charts and also dominated urban radio, marking her first time leading on the format.
Additionally, “ICU” also took home the 2024 Grammy for Best R&B Performance. Jones’ win was among her five nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards.
Per Coco Jones, “ICU” was about “the push and pull of being in a relationship where the circumstances have changed. Growing in our career and personal goals, but growing apart at the same time.”
In a 2023 interview with Rated R&B, Camper, who produced and co-wrote the track, explained why he believes “ICU” continues to have continued success.
“It’s just staying true and making real music. [Coco] was down with that from day one,” Camper shared.
At the time of publication, “ICU” has garnered over 56 million streams on Spotify, while the official video has surpassed 62 million views on YouTube.
Jones, who recently performed at the 2024 BET Awards as part of a Lifetime Achievement tribute for Usher, is currently making waves on the charts with her latest single, “Here We Go (Uh Oh).”
Released on May 3, the Cardiak and Wu10-produced track sampling Lenny Williams remains at No. 17 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart for a second consecutive week.
“I think the music inspired the song concept because I feel like with the sample, it feels like this orchestra and like a mystery,” Jones exclusively told Rated R&B about the song’s inspiration.
She continued, “[It’s] like this mission is happening like 007 or something. I was like, ‘What could be the mission here?’ And the mission, I feel like, is to be free from this person that constantly comes back in — to get over that hurdle.”
“Here We Go (Uh Oh)” is a sneak peek of Jones’ forthcoming debut album, which will release on High Standardz/Def Jam Recordings.
More recently, Jones revealed a new version of “Almost There” as part of Disney’s Princess Songs reimagining campaign. The original track, performed by Anika Noni Rose, is part of The Princess and the Frog film, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year.
