With her newly released album “Better” just hitting stores yesterday (June 11), Chrisette Michele chops it up with Rap-Up TV.
The more up-beat and lively Michele says that she is back to her original intent of making people feel “better,” happier and liberated; which seems fitting considering that her new album is entitled Better. For her fourth studio project, Michele teamed up with Chuck Harmony, 2 Chains, Wale, Musiq Souldchild and her brother.
“It is a little self-centered in that I wrote most of the music and concentrated a lot on the production,” says the soulful singer about her new album in her Rap-Up TV interview.
Surprisingly, despite her soulful genre, Michele admits that her musical ears don’t listen to much R&B. Instead, she listens to the likes of Green Day and artists that she grew up listening to such as Blink 182 and No Doubt.
In retrospect, Michele returns to the soulful genre with what she calls an “ode to Erykah Badu’s ’20 Feet Tall.’” What better way to do that than with the soulful man himself, Musiq Soulchild who is featured on the track. The track entitled, “Ten Foot Stilettos,” is her way of saying, “I’m above all the drama, all the nonsense that goes on in life, you know what, at the end of the day let’s all walk in the clouds and believe in unicorns,” as the songstress playfully puts it.
Michele also revealed her obsession with artists such as Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj and Eve. She also squeezed in juicy news of her working on Eve’s new album.
