10 R&B Songs That Teach You A Life Lesson (Part 2)

In April, we published our first installment of R&B songs that teach you life lessons. After receiving a great response from our readers, we’ve decided to release the second installment of ten R&B songs that will teach us a lesson in life.

Again, it was hard to narrow down to ten but hopefully you learn a lesson or two with each song and use it throughout your everyday lives.

Estelle – “Thank You”

Life Lesson: As we begin to date, finding the right one who isn’t going to hurt or cheat on us is often like picking a needle out a haystack. Nonetheless, be able to understand the difference between being loved and being hurt. Know when to close the door behind you and never look back. Looking forward is a sign of growth and maturity.

“One thing I learned in life, that is/gotta be ready to sacrifice to survive”

Mary J Blige “MY LIFE” is THE R&B album of the century, to have Keyshia Cole on this list and leave out a top 100 album of all time is a big mistake. Without My Life KC AC and JS’s albums would sound nothing like they did. Mary changed the R&B landscape with that album and it is a major reason why is is the QUEEN.

Afrodisiac is better than NSN. Butterfly murders TEOM. I’d personally put Now over Urban Hang Suite, etc etc. and some of these, like Keyshia, no.

No Jodeci? Diary of Mad Band is the blueprint for contemporary R&B. No Aaliyah? One In A Million is a classic too!

Deborah Cox’s “One Wish” should be on this list.

Shocked that Mariah’s Butterfly isn’t on here. TEOM is not the obvious R&B choice.
