Mary J. Blige isn’t called the Queen of the Hip-Hop Soul for nothing. The respected music titian blesses Harlem rapper Dave East with her expressive vocals on their new collaboration “Know How I Feel.”
Taken from his Karma 3 mixtape, the emotional collaboration finds the street storyteller riding a tough beat to share his unique perspective on living in the concrete jungle.
In top form, Blige stamps the record with her soulful delivery on the chorus. It becomes more personal for the Grammy winner when she comes through a heart-tugging verse about her current life struggles.
“I wanna learn to be more patient / Learn how to get through all this temptation / I don’t know if I would ever have kids / Don’t want them to know what a broken heart is / I wish that when I close my eyes / Wish I could sleep straight through the night,” she sings.
East revealed in a recent interview that he and Blige are working on a joint project. It could be one of the three albums Blige has been teasing for the last year.
Blige, who is enjoying success in the wine business with Sun Goddess, is set to star on the Power sequel Power Book II: Ghost. It premieres on Starz on September 6 at 9 p.m. ET.
On November 20, Blige is releasing an expanded version of her groundbreaking album My Life.
