Recent JUNO Awards winner Savannah Ré is in search of more hours in the day on her latest song “24hrs.”
Ré uses her husband and frequent collaborator YogiTheProducer as the song’s muse and genius behind the guitar-driven backdrop. The stylings of the instruments along with the backing vocals are reminiscent of the soul songs of the 2000s but with a modern twist.
“And I’ll take my time, learning you right / You know you deserve the best of your life / You take your time / Long as we get it right / I deserve, we deserve,” she sings.
She explained the inspiration of the song came from witnessing the end of relationships during the quarantine last year. However, for her, it was the opposite, stating, “I feel like my relationship has gotten nothing but stronger, and it almost is like I wish 24 hours was longer just to have more time with my significant other. Feel good R&B is back.”
“24hrs” is the first release from Ré since her debut EP Opia from November 2020. In an interview with Rated R&B, Ré broke down the meaning of each song. You can revisit it here.
Outside of music, Ré recently made Canadian music history when she won the 2021 JUNO Award for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. She is the first Canadian artist to win this award.
