Ari Lennox gifts fans with not one, but two new tracks: “Coming Down” and “Blackberry Sap.” Both songs are lifted from her label Dreamville’s D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, which is out today.
On “Coming Down,” inspired by Rose Royce’s “I’m Going Down,” Lennox confronts a lover whose behavior is negatively impacting their relationship as he continues using opioids.
“Them drugs that are holding you / Doing sh*t that’ll get you f*cked up in your private school / Oh, you must think that I’m your savior / But I’m dealin’ with my sh*t too / I don’t evеn recognize you / Feels like you’rе a f*ckin’ stranger, ooh baby,” Lennox sings in the first verse.
“Coming Down” was co-produced by her Dreamville labelhead J.Col, WU10 and DZL.

“Blackberry Sap,” a song Lennox teased in October 2020, was produced by J. White Did It (Cardi B, Eric Bellinger, Tinashe). The mid-tempo tune was made specifically for steamy lovemaking sessions in the bedroom. Lennox makes it clear to her partner that she is ready to “hit the Mariah notes” and ride more than one body part.
“Long as you don’t break the code / You could be my lil’ freak / Hit ’em with the voodoo / Grab a bitch by the roots / Spinnin’, Crash Bandicoot / Bust open like some new new,” she sings on the sticky tune.
“Coming Down” and “Blackberry Sap” should hold fans over until Lennox is ready to release her sophomore album. Although a release date has not been announced yet, Lennox confirmed it will arrive in 2022.
Her current focus track “Pressure” has been a mainstay on the charts. In January, it reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart and on the R&B radio chart. The following month, she made a special appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform the track.
Aside from her music, Lennox has also been collaborating with more artists as of lately. She recently teamed up with hip-hop duo EarthGang for their song “Run Too” and rapper Buddy on “Coolest Things.” In 2021, Lennox collaborated with Jazmine Sullivan (“On It”), Summer Walker (“Unloyal”) and Queen Naija (“Set Him Up”), among others.
