Brent Faiyaz has earned a few new awards from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
His 2020 single “Dead Man Walking” is now certified platinum, selling more than one million equivalent units.
Faiyaz co-produced the spontaneous track with Jordan Ware, Lil Rece and Dpat. It was released as the lead single from his gold-selling sophomore album, Wasteland.
“Dead Man Walking” has garnered more than 250 million streams on Spotify since releasing Sept. 18, 2020.
Additionally, Faiyaz and DJ Dahi‘s “Gravity” featuring Tyler, the Creator is now certified platinum.
The midtempo jam was the second release from Wasteland, arriving in the winter of 2021. It’s amassed close to 176 million streams on Spotify at the time of the publication.
“Gravity” and “Dead Man Walking” are among Faiyaz’s platinum plaques as a lead act. They join “Trust” from his 2018 EP, Lost.
Another Wasteland track was awarded a certification. The Neptunes-produced and featured “Wasting Time” is now certified gold with more than 500,000 equivalent units sold.
Drake also appears on “Wasting Time,” which was Faiyaz’s first urban radio top ten entry as a lead artist in August 2021. Faiyaz later outdid this record with “All Mine,” which peaked at No. 1, making it his first chart leader on the format.
Faiyaz also gained his gold honor for F*ck The World, a 10-song EP he released in February 2020.
It’s his second certification for an album (or project) following Wasteland, which was bestowed with a gold plaque in November.
Wasteland recently made Rated R&B’s Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Rated R&B’s Edward Dave said this about the album: “For years, Faiyaz has prided himself on being a ladies’ man who wears his vices on his sleeve and keeps his heart in an icebox. On Wasteland, Faiyaz dispels myths about himself and simultaneously gives the world more layers of his vulnerable side.”
Released July 8 via his imprint Lost Kids, Wasteland opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. Its 88,000 first-week sales were Faiyaz’s largest opening week figures to date.
That same week, Faiyaz had several songs debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “Loose Change” (No. 52) and “Price of Fame” (No. 67). His collaboration, “Ghetto Gatsby” featuring Alicia Keys also entered at No. 91.
Speaking of Keys, she and Faiyaz are making the rounds within the top ten of Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. “Trillions” is now No. 4 during the week of Dec. 17.
