Brandy is ready to hit the road with Monica.
In an interview with Extra TV at the Descendants: The Rise of Red premiere in Los Angeles, Brandy expressed her desire to collaborate more with Monica.
“I hit [Monica] up so much talking about all the things that we could do together — tour, residency, everything,” Brandy told Extra TV on the red carpet. “I really want that. Monica, I really want that.”
Brandy, who reprises her iconic role as Cinderella in the upcoming film, also reflected on her experience reuniting with Monica for Ariana Grande’s “The Boy Is Mine (Remix).”
“It was so magical,” Brandy told Extra. “The energy between me and Monica was so beautiful. I loved working with her this time.”
She continued, “It was so great for [Ariana] to call us up to be a part of it… I had a great time with Monica and I just want to do more with her in the future.”
Brandy and Monica’s appearance on Grande’s remix comes 26 years after releasing their iconic duet, “The Boy Is Mine,” which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Darkchild-produced song won Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal at the 41st Grammy Awards in 1999, earning Monica and Brandy their first Grammy win.
Thirteen years after “The Boy Is Mine,” the music legends joined forces for “It All Belongs To Me.” The Rico Love and Earl & E-produced duet appeared on Monica’s 2012 album, New Life.
In 2020, Brandy and Monica joined each other for a Verzuz battle, celebrating their decade-spanning hits. According to Verzuz, they drew in 6 million viewers across Instagram and Apple Music.
In other news, the “Full Moon” singer will star in the A24-produced thriller The Front Room, which opens in U.S. theaters on Sept. 8.
On a music note, The Vocal Bible released a holiday album in 2023 titled Christmas With Brandy via Bran Nu/Motown Records.
Brandy’s last non-holiday album, b7, was released July 31, 2020. The album included her Grammy-nominated duet with Daniel Caesar, “Love Again,” and her Chance the Rapper-assisted single “Baby Mama.”
When asked what she hopes listeners will take from b7, Brandy told Rated R&B, “I want them to feel like they were blessed with really good music that not only speaks to my heart but speaks to their heart.”
Brandy continued, “I want this to be an album for people to listen to all the way through. I hope that I can inspire everyone to not give up on their dreams. Whatever they feel that’s holding them back, they can push through that situation.”
In 2023, Monica joined Nicki Minaj on her uplifting song “Love Me Enough” alongside Keyshia Cole.
Earlier that year, Monica released her single “Letters,” which she co-wrote with Ciara, Tasha Catour, Alicia Renee Williams, and Brian “Killah B” Bates. “Letters” was the follow-up to her Ty Dolla $ign-assisted single “Friends.”
Regarding the latter track, Monica explained, “‘Friends’ is about keeping people in their place and handling your own relationship.”
“Letters” and “Friends” are expected to appear on Monica’s long-awaited album, Trenches, which has no release date yet.
The album will also include “Trenches” featuring Lil Baby, which was produced by The Neptunes.
