After nearly seven years, Cassie returns hard with a critically acclaimed EP RockaByeBaby. The return of Cassie was promising after her feature on Nicki Minaj’s “Boys” single in 2012. The RockaByeBaby EP puts Cassie in a new view of recognition for everyone to appreciate her sound and look. The thirteen tracks all flow well together and pay homage to 1991’s New Jack City with snippets from the film going along with different tracks. Let’s find out why Cassie is now putting haters to sleep without breaking a sweat.
“Paradise” featuring Wiz Khalifa, which served as a single, showcased much of what a typical summer day would be like in Oakland with beautiful people living in hood. The electro-led track portrays Cassie as a woman with no regrets or cares in the world. This entire concept is different for Cassie especially with never hearing her use profanity within her music.
“Take Care of Me Baby” featuring Pusha T is a track that clears up everything up from “Paradise.” Cassie explains that she doesn’t care about what people say because she going to do it her way anyway. This track lets it be known what you have to do to keep her and how to treat her like a lady. Could this be a possible track for her alleged boyfriend Diddy?
“Sound of Love” featuring Jeremih is a slow-grinding track that makes you want to turn off the lights. The song portrays a The Dream-esque quality but has a message towards the end of the song. Cassie mentions how she doesn’t know if she is ready for love especially right now.
“Addiction” is not the 2006 smash hit that comes to mind but it does feature Fabolous, who happens to be on both tracks. Using seductive and sensual vocals, Cassie reminds you of when she first came on to the music scene. By adding Fabolous, he takes it a step further by dropping a few bars over an electronic beat.
“Do My Dance” featuring Too Short is a hood anthem. This song just makes you think of strip-clubs, no-strings attached sex, and house party. Cassie is on the track commanding the listener to do a few things good and right.
The chopped and screwed track “I Know What You What” is self-explanatory. The blunt approach Cassie takes on this song is just what the entire project is all about brutal expression.
“Bad Bitches” featuring Ester Dean is an anthem that could possibly cause the rise of a million woman march! The lyrics express the simplicity of woman’s skill to get what she wants and needs by taking no nonsense from anyone. Ester Dean on the bridge just allows Cassie to shine on the track without seeming pressed to please the masses.
“Numb” featuring Rick Ross is the something of a chill laid back track. The best parts aren’t even the verse but actually the monotone chorus, “I make music to numb your brain”. The track was the first to premiere as the preview of what to aspect for the entire EP.
RockaByeBaby is definitely a great piece of work. Cassie will need to capitalize on the success of the project in order to see her future projects become more successful. With Rihanna bound to take a break, Cassie can show fans from all over the world that she more than a one hit wonder.
