Snoh Aalegra earns her first platinum award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). “I Want You Around,” released as a focus single from her sophomore album – Ugh, Those Feels Again, has sold more than one million equivalent units.

Co-written by Marcus James, “I Want You Around” was shared in February 2019. Nine months later, an official remix that featured 6LACK premiered.

The first version would cause a quiet storm on the R&B charts, eventually topping Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in March 2020 for two weeks. Aalegra’s moment arrived 41 weeks after “I Want You Around” debuted on this list in the April 13, 2019, issue. It is the longest hike to the pole position, ending the record of a once-acclaimed R&B legend.

At the time of publishing, “I Want You Around” is Aalegra’s top song on both Spotify and Apple Music. The fan favorite on the former platform has amassed over 92 million streams.

Following 2019’s – Ugh, Those Feels Again, Aalegra released Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies in July 2021. The 15-track record features Tyler, the Creator on two tracks, plus a guest appearance from James Fauntleroy. It produced two successful singles, including “In Your Eyes” and “Lost You.”

Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies placed No. 12 on Rated R&B’s 30 best R&B albums of 2021 list. Rated R&B’s Anders J. Hare praised Aalegra’s collaborators for bringing her “endearing sound up to speed” for “Aalegra’s most ear-catching work to date.”

Aalegra received a pair of 2022 Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Album for Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies and Best R&B Performance for “Lost You.”

Later this summer, Aalegra goes back on the road this year. This time, she’s supporting The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn Tour, starting Aug. 11 in Atlanta, Georgia. Kaytranada and Mike Dean will also support The Weeknd on the road, following Doja Cat pulling out of the stadium tour.

On Sept. 4, Aalegra will perform at Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway grounds in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jazmine Sullivan and Victoria Monét will also rep for R&B at the two-day affair.
