Ari Lennox’s celebrated debut album, Shea Butter Baby, has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The Washington, D.C., native’s first proper album has sold more than 500,000 equivalent units since releasing May 7, 2019.

Shea Butter Baby had a lengthy promotional campaign, with its lead single, “Whipped Cream,” released in July 2018. The sweet single, co-produced by Elite and Ronald Gilmore, was certified gold in March.

The title track, which features J. Cole, followed in November 2018. It reached No. 11 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. The song was certified platinum, exceeding sales of one million equivalent units. It marks her first platinum award received by the RIAA.

After Shea Butter Baby ranked No. 1 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2019, Lennox received another gold accolade for “BMO.”

Lennox earned new RIAA awards outside the Shea Butter Baby album cycle.

“On It,” a collaboration between her and Jazmine Sullivan, advanced to gold status in April. The following month, “Pressure,” the lead single from her sophomore album age/sex/location, went gold for pushing over 500,000 equivalent units.

Also, “Got Me,” part of Dreamville’s Revenge Of The Dreamers III compilation, is certified gold. Lennox made an appearance on the track along with Ty Dolla $ign, Omen and Dreezy.

Regarding age/sex/location, album two from Lennox arrived on Sept. 9 via Dreamville / Interscope Records. The set features guest appearances by Summer Walker, Lucky Daye and Chlöe.

Besides the chart-topper “Pressure,” age/sex/location includes “Hoodie” and “Queen Space.” It also has “POF,” the latest focus track she just paired with a corresponding visual.

She performed the latter tune on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, along with “Waste My Time.”

Age/sex/location debuted at No. 13 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and No. 69 on the Billboard 200.

Later this month, Lennox will join Babyface for his forthcoming album Girl’s Night Out. His Capitol Records debut features additional appearances by Queen Naija, Kehlani, Ella Mai, Sevyn Streeter, Tink and many more.
