Mahalia is back. The British singer-songwriter has released her new single “Bag Of You,” produced by JD Reid and Max Pope.
On “Bag Of You,” Mahalia packs a passionate punch of breezy R&B, where she sings of an endearingly beautiful romance for a specific person.
Mahalia proves to be a clever lyricist, equating the love this particular interest gives her to something she wishes to purchase from the local market.
“This song is one of my favourites so far. ‘Bag Of You’ is all about that sweet spot in a relationship when everything is just lovely,” says Mahalia. “Where the idea of being without that person – even just for a second – is too much to bare. I love everything about this record. It’s definitely the start of what’s to come next year.”
“Bag Of You” arrives with an accompanying music video directed by Oli Kane. It finds Mahalia on a sunset beach with her love interest.
Mahalia’s new song comes months behind her EP Letter To Ur Ex, which dropped in May via Atlantic Records.
“We’re all fixated on how we can make ourselves better during and after this period of time, but I want people to also reminisce on lovely or painful situations they’ve lived through and how they’ve helped shape the people they are now,” said Mahalia.
She teamed up with Rated R&B to premiere an acoustic performance of “In The Club.”
“There’s definitely something really beautiful and intimate about a guitar and a voice. I still have parts of my live show where that’s all it is,” Mahalia told Rated R&B.
Mahalia’s Letter To Ur Ex EP builds anticipation for her sophomore album, which is the follow-up to her 2019 debut album, Love and Compromise. “It’s definitely coming. I’m not going away again,” she affirmed to Rated R&B.
