The marathon continues. PJ Morton amplifies his funk-tinged tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle with his music video for “Buy Back the Block.”
Inspired by the West Coast rapper’s selfless investment in his community, Morton and his daughter Peyton take their generosity to the streets of their hometown New Orleans.
Following a visit to Liberty Bank, a Black-owned financial institution, the two make various home visits to Black individuals who were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Those stops weren’t in vain, as Morton donated $500 each to members of his community, including a recent college graduate taking on the burden of her family’s medical expenses and an elderly couple facing foreclosure.
“Buy Back the Block” appears on Morton’s 2019 album PAUL, which made Rated R&B’s top 30 R&B albums of 2019 list.
The multi-awarded Grammy winner kicked off the month with the release of his latest heartfelt touch “I Can’t Wait.” The track follows The Piano Album, which arrived following his Best R&B Song (“Say So”) win at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
