BJ The Chicago Kid has teamed up with multi-faceted singer, songwriter and producer Full Crate for his new single “Show Her The Way.”
The song points to BJ The Chicago Kid’s ability to prosper in a supporting role. His honeyed voice is strategically placed for Full Crate to thrive on his quest to be wholeheartedly engaged in human connection for the first time.
“Slow down the pace / And show her the way / The way to love / There’s nothing better,” sings BJ The Chicago Kid in the chorus.
“This song has so many layers for me. It’s a story about being with someone that not only understands me, but also gives me the freedom to fully be myself,” says Full Crate.
“On top of that, working on a song with BJ The Chicago Kid has been on the top of my list. Not only did he bless the song with an amazing hook, he also was part of the harmonies around my vocals, which meant a lot to me.”
“Show Her The Way” will appear on Full Crate’s upcoming album debut album, A Kid From Yerevan, which releases June 2 via his imprint 85 Oceans/The Orchard.
BJ last released an album nearly four years ago. Under Motown Records, 1123 was BJ’s sophomore album. The LP included the singles “Time Today” and the Offset-assisted “Worryin’ Bout Me.”
In addition to Offset, the Grammy-nominated 1123 included features from Rick Ross, JID, Buddy, Kent Jamz, and Afrojack.
A lot has changed for BJ The Chicago Kid since his last record. He is now an independent artist.
“It feels good to be independent and finally be able to give my fans the music I’ve been making closer to the time it’s been created,” BJ said. “It’s an empowering feeling because I think as artists often, by the time a project comes out, we have emotionally detached from it.”
In 2021, he released his 4 AM EP, which included features from Lucky Daye and Eric Bellinger. He followed later that year with an EP titled Three.
Last year, BJ The Chicago Kid appeared on a few albums, including Robert Glasper’s award-winning album Black Radio III and DRAM’s lauded What Had Happened Was… He also co-starred on Lute’s 2022 album Gold Mouf.
Most recently, he was recruited for Creed III: The Soundtrack for the track “In The Room,” which also features JID and Tierra Whack.
On June 24, BJ The Chicago Kid is scheduled to perform at BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival in Brooklyn, New York. Then, in July, he will play at the second annual Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa.
